As summer winds down, a lot of us start to feel that quiet stress coming up.
Maybe it’s the thought of school starting again, juggling new schedules, or just the shift into a new season.
Even if you're not in school, work might pick up towards the end of the year and that comes with a lot of stress.
And when life feels like it’s speeding up, your thoughts can too.
When I feel like this, I like to do a grounding exercise.
Grounding exercises are simple techniques that help you feel more present and calm when your thoughts are racing.
They're especially helpful if you're dealing with overthinking, anxiety, or just want a mindset shift during busy seasons.
Here’s one of my favorite exercises to try:
Counting Up by 3's
Start at 3 and keep counting up by 3s.
Like this:
3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24...
It sounds super simple - but it works for a reason.
When your brain is stuck in a loop of stress or overthinking, it’s usually running on autopilot.
Counting by 3’s interrupts that loop.
It forces your brain to slow down and focus just enough to stay on track.
It’s not hard, but it’s also not something you can do mindlessly. That little bit of effort is what pulls your mind out of the spiral and brings it back to the present moment.
This kind of mental shift is one of the easiest ways to reduce that overwhelmed feeling and help you reset your energy - even in the middle of a busy day.
You can do this anywhere:
- While brushing your teeth
- On the walk to school or work
- Before a meeting or test
- Anytime your thoughts start spinning
Try saying the numbers out loud while gently spinning your fidget ring.
Why fidget rings help
Fidget rings are one of the best calming tools.
The repetitive motion of spinning the ring can help quiet your thoughts and make grounding exercises like this one even more effective.
Our fidget rings are designed to support your nervous system and are discreet so you can bring them wherever you go.
I hope this helps.
