The other day, I caught myself saying something really mean, not to anyone else, but to myself.
It wasn’t loud or obvious. It was just that quiet voice that says,
“Why can’t you get it together?”
“You’re not doing enough.”
Sound familiar?
We all do this sometimes.
We talk to ourselves more than anyone else, in our minds, when we’re overthinking, or when we make a mistake.
And the truth is, those words shape how we feel, how we see ourselves, and even what we believe we can do.
Why self-talk matters
The way you talk to yourself is like background music in your mind.
If it’s soft, kind, and encouraging, you feel calm and capable.
But if it’s harsh or negative, it makes everything feel heavier.
That’s where affirmations come in.
They’re not just “positive quotes.” They’re gentle mindset shifts that remind your brain what’s true, not what your worries or anxiety try to tell you.
When you repeat words like:
“I’m doing my best.”
“I am safe and grounded.”
“I can do this.”
You start to believe them.
And over time, your brain learns to calm down instead of spiraling into overthinking.
How affirmations actually work
It’s not magic, it’s practice.
Affirmations help rewire your thoughts by creating new patterns in your brain.
Each time you speak kindly to yourself, you strengthen those calm, confident pathways.
It’s a small daily mindset shift that builds a softer, more peaceful inner world, what I like to call your “soft life mindset”.
Tips for making affirmations more powerful
- Say them out loud. Hearing your own voice makes them feel more real.
- Write them somewhere visible. A mirror note, your phone wallpaper, or a card on your desk.
- Repeat them during grounding moments. Especially when you feel anxious or your thoughts start to race.
- Pair them with a grounding tool. Something you can touch or hold, it helps bring your focus back to the present.
One of my favorite ways to stay grounded while saying affirmations is with my fidget ring.
When I spin my fidget ring, it reminds me to pause, breathe, and speak kindly to myself.
It’s a gentle reminder that you’re in control of your energy and your peace.
