This is "The Little Things" Grounding Exercise

I heard this exercise on a podcast the other day and loved it.

It's about noticing the little things and how they can help you slow down and feel more grounded.

 

I've been calling it "The Little Things" Grounding Exercise

This exercise helps you focus on the present, which helps you calm your mind. It activates your senses which brings you to your body, and away from overthinking. 
By focusing on the little things, it shifts your focus away from any overwhelming thoughts you may have. 

 

Let's do it together - it'll only take a minute.

Grab a glass of water. 
 
When you look at it, what do you see?
 
Do you notice the sunlight reflecting on the water?
 
Are there any other reflections on the water or on the glass?
 
What does it sound like when you tap the glass with your ring or nail?
 
Now, feel the glass. Is the water cold?
 
Is there condensation on the outside?
 
How does that feel on your skin?

 

 

Do you feel a bit more present after doing this?
 
I was amazed by how many details I don't usually notice about a simple glass of water. 
  
Next time, try this with another "little thing" from your day.
